No one should have to suffer from loneliness in old age
That is the mission of Silbernetz. It helps older people in Germany to get back in touch with others.
Throughout Germany, Silbernetz offers help to older people who feel lonely. It offers three types of service to find a way out of the isolation they are experiencing:
- On the Silver Telephone („Silbertelefon“) 0800 4 70 80 90
for people who just fancy a chat - With Silvernet Friends („Silbernetz Freunde“) who regularly
phone „their“ elderly people at an agreed time in order to
help them take their first steps out of isolation - With Silberinfo, which provides provides information
about services directed at elderly people.
Silbernetz, the network against loneliness, is a non-profit organisation, founded in 2014 in Berlin, Germany.
Silbernetz has three levels of contact
Silver Telephone: simply have a chat when you need it
- On 0800 4 70 80 90 Silbernetz offers a sympathetic ear to anyone aged 60 and over.
- Available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
- You don’t need to be in trouble to call – it’s enough to just feel like talking.
- The conversation is anonymous, confidential and free of charge.
- The Silver Telephone staff staff will listen to the caller’s story, offer sympathy and encouragement, and may be able to provide some initial information.

The Silver Telephone also accepts requests for a Silvernet Friendship.
2. Silbernetz Friends: regular phone calls with a trusted contact
- Once a week at an agreed time, volunteer Silvernet Friends phone „their“ elderly person for an hour long chat. This means regular, reliable conversations of a confidential nature, always with the same person.
- Silvernet Friends listen to and take an active interest in their contacts. They can provide information about appropriate local services and encourage people to take the first steps out of isolation.

Silberinfo: information on local services
- Silbernetz provides callers with information about basic services for older people in Germany’s federal states and municipalities, and specific information about local services for callers from Berlin.
- Silbernetz cooperates with providers of local and regional services for the elderly. In the future, Silbernetz will also support the maintenance of regional databases on assistance for the elderly.
